Tun Abdul Taib Takes Oath Of Office
KUCHING, Tues: Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud this afternoon took his oath of office to continue his service as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak during a signing ceremony at the Ceremonial Room of the State Legislative Assembly here.
His Excellency, whose term runs for two years from 1st of March took his oath before the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Iskandar bin Abang Hashim.
As part of the ceremony, the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg was invited to read the instrument of appointment from the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.
Later, His Excellency took the oath of office and signed the document before the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak.
His Excellency’s wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Raghad Kurdi Taib was present to witness the signing ceremony.
A Doa Selamat was offered by Iman Besar Negeri Sarawak Sahibul Fadillah Dato Haji Mustafa Kamal bin Haji Ahmad at the end of the brief but highly significant ceremony.
Later His Excellency and his wife joined the distinguished guests for a tea reception at the Atirium of the DUN.
Among those present were the Premier’s wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Ugah Embas, the Minister of Transport, Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also the Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Ministers and heads of departments.
